This technique has become prevalent in contemporary dance music, where the volume of one audio source modulates another. A notable example can be found in genres like Trance and Dubstep, where sound engineers utilize the bass drum's impact to create a rhythmic 'pumping' effect, allowing sustained sounds like strings to sit more comfortably in a mix while adding dynamic energy.

This compressor distinguishes itself by addressing the inherent limitations of AUv3 plugins on iOS and the challenges of multi-audio routing within DAW applications. Previously, true side chaining was not feasible within the AUv3 framework. However, with AUM's recent updates facilitating multiple inputs and outputs per AUv3 plugin, users can now explore more sophisticated audio processing techniques.

While this enhancement primarily benefits AUM users, those utilizing other DAWs need not feel left behind. This plugin provides an innovative solution for achieving pseudo side chaining — by linking two instances of the plugin to various sources and facilitating audio routing between them. This arrangement requires one instance to function as the MASTER effect and the other as SLAVE, with audio transferred using one of three available busses.

In AUM, achieving true side chaining is straightforward. By setting the SideChain Mode to 'Normal' and loading an instance of the plugin onto the channel intended for control, users can leverage the new 'Multiple Audio Unit Instances' feature to redirect the controlling source's output to the same bus that the plugin monitors. It's a user-friendly approach that enhances versatility in audio manipulation—just ensure that both instances operate on either Bus 2 or Bus 3, as Bus 1 is designated for the original audio.
